Various landlords use homehunt® to allocate their properties, and each landlord has slightly different rules in how they allocate, but in general, to use homehunt® you need to:
1. Register
This means completing a very short form with a few basic details about you and your family, and reading through a number of disclaimers to check you are eligible to apply to that landlord. You can Register online. You need to register with each provider you are interested in being housed with.
2. Apply for Property
Once you are Registered, you can search on this website for that Providers available property. When you see a house you like, simply apply for it online.
3. Apply for a Priority Pass (where appropriate)
Once you've registered you'll also receive a homehunt Registration Pack from the provider/s you registered with. This includes information on applying for Priority Passes. Priority Passes are awarded to those in 'significant housing need'. Each provider gives details of the passes available for their properties in the registration pack that each customer receives, though all Registered Social Landlords ensure that priority is available for homelessness, for serious medical situations where a change of house will improve someone's circumstances, and for serious overcrowding, but other passes are available too.
Information on how to apply for a priority pass, and the form itself, is included in the registration pack. If a customer's circumstances seem to match to the descriptions in the homehunt® guide the relevant form should be completed and returned for assessment as soon as possible.
Only one priority pass is given at any one time and passes are usually valid for 6 months, although they can be renewed in certain circumstances (e.g. no suitable properties were advertised).
4. How Properties are Allocated
Once the closing date is reached all the applications are ranked according to the following rules:
1.
Applicants who make 'best use' of the property - normally this is the right household size but for some properties it might also include people with disabilities or of a particular age - these will be stated in the advert.
2.
People with a Priority Pass, in the order of Gold (or Gold Plus if the provider uses a Gold Plus pass), Silver, then Bronze.
3.
If more than one applicant has the same level of priority pass, or there are no applicants with priority passes, first refusal goes to the customer with the longest registration.
5. Publicising Allocations
To help customers make informed choices about what is available for them all homehunt® landlords give regular feedback on how each property was let - whether 'best use' was achieved, whether a priority pass was used and the date of registration. Registration ensures that customers receive this feedback without having to take any further action.
And that's it! Happy homehunting!
